The ten year anniversary of The Parenting Passageway is coming up in October. This blog has seen me through the days and years of when our oldest child was tiny, all the way through high school and three children homeschooling multiple times through the grades! Amazing all the different changes in ten years!
One thing that has been consistent about this blog is a love of developmental parenting and education. I often felt Waldorf Education met the developmental needs of our children very well, and wrote about what we were doing in our homeschooling. The Parenting Passageway 
Hi,
Blogs like yours are so precious to me, because I have discovered waldorf very late. I have three kids who are 13, 11 and 7. We will be waldorf homeschooling for the first time. I would like to combine most of the topics for the older ones. My question is for the older ones is it ok to do two main lessons- like one history and one science– on the same day? Since we will be starting with the 5th grade history I feel a little bit out of time. What would you suggest? Thank you.
Fifth grade begins with Ancient Mythologies, so I think you are right on time to jump in! I wouldn’t worry about doubling up on blocks during the same day unless perhaps it was geometry combined with something else – geometry and botany can go very nicely together I think in an integrated way. Thank you. So I understand that just one main lesson block is enough per day.This makes me feel so relieved. Around 2 hours of main lesson + handwork or art related to the main lesson + self-read + maths(3 times a week) , my current plan, I hope this sounds fair enough. Yes, sounds good. You are right, I think that is the only day in the life kind of post. I will try to write another one, but since our days are so different now with high school in the mix, not sure how helpful it will be. 🙂

Actually rather than a full day I am more interested in how you deliver/manage a main lesson. I am aware of the main lesson structure but I just would like to see it on a few sample topics. If there are posts like this, they would be great help. Thanks a lot for your time.
I will have to think on that one. I wrote one about general “how to teach a main lesson block” but I am not sure if I have much specifically with examples. I did do each week through grades I think it was – 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th? So those posts may have suggestions. If you throw me an example, I can make up a sample day for you. Thanks and blessings, Carrie
