Thank you so much for your words of wisdom today. I really needed to read this post today, the number of no's today was far and beyond that of other days. Extra tired? Extra hungry? A sore tummy? Missing Daddy who had gone back to work? All of the above! But still it's hard to look past those grabbing fingers for sharp knife dangers and when you say don't touch! and get NO! ME DO IT! in return, aaargh! Breathe, smile, move said sharp object, get down, cuddle, move on...
Thanks again...

Carrie,

Thank you for your words today. I have been reading for almost a year, and have been blessed many times by very timely posts. Today was another of those days - after a wonderful but exhausting camping weekend with my 33 month old son and 7 month old daughter my frustration with "No!" , and "How come?" filled days has been riding high. I am reminded once again to reflect and realize not only how little he is, but also how short these years are. (Deep breath). Thank you.

Yes, at 18 months old , it is up to mothers to be proactive in structuring the environment and to look ahead at tasks and what part a child can participate in (and what they can't). A great reminder for all the mothers of toddlers out there - thank you, Melissa.
Many blessings,
Carrie

its true ... so far my son doesn't say no that often and normally he says it after I say it. However re following through is what I am doing. An example is this he loves throwing soil from the plants onto the floor. Unfortuantely at 1 and a half I find it difficult to explain that its not good for the plant so I warn him twice that if he does it again we go inside and that is what i do in the end :)
