Thanks so much, Carrie. We are having huge problems with rhythm ( I have 6 and 4 y.o. boys and a 19 mo. old daughter) right now due to the oppressive weather here in Iowa and because we are trying to prep for a move to a remote area in MT at the end of August. And trying to squeeze in vacation to see grandparents in NC before leaving. I just cannot seem to keep even a “skeleton” rhythm for them right now. Any tips? I don’t know what we’ll do once we get to MT. We don’t have a house there yet and will be in a hotel for a while as there is no available short term rental property in our new town, population 3000. I’d love to hear your insights!

Anna,
Yup, the listening to both sides is for older children, just as you guessed…With those ages you mainly have rhythm, getting the energy out, distraction. Your five-year old may be able to handle some restitution type things with your help..for example, if he broke a toy of the three year old’s he could help you fix it. He could help put healing salve on an owie of the three-year-old, that sort of thing. But with you, after things are calm and everyone feels loved and back in the right frame of mind again…

Hi Carrie,
As alwysa so what I needed -
We are experiencing the same only because of being a bit housebound here in NZ in the Southern Hem winter!! We try and get outside when we can – some days with 5,3 and 9mth boys things can get heated! Two questions – You mention restitution can you give me some examples appropriate to these ages? also the bit about “listen to both sides and have them come up with thier own solution” is this mainly for older kids? too awakening for my boys ages?
